About

History

• Obstetrics & gynec department of sir- t hospital,Govt.medical college ,Bhavnagar was established in year 1997.
• O &G department provides comprehensive service in MCH & gynecological needs of women.
• To begin with department was housed in Gopnath Maternity Home, a separate building in sir- t hospital campus.
• All the services of obstetrics, gynec , family planning & NICU were delivered in GMH.
• In the year 2007 gynec department & OPD were shifted in new OPD building (6th floor) of sir t. hospital campus. Obstetrics & NICU services were delivered in GMH.
• In the year 2006 MD course in obstetrics & gynec was started.
• In the year 2007 diploma course in obstetrics & gynec was started.
• Course of MD in obstetrics & gynec was recognized by MCI in year 2009 with permission of annual intake of 2 seats.
• Course of diploma in obstetrics & gynec was recognized by MCI in year 2010 with permission of annual intake of 1 seat.
• Department is providing services and capacity building activities in all nationalized programmes under RCH, FW & NRHM pertaining to maternal and child health.

Facility

Obstetric department

• Comprensive MCH service is delivered in GMH, a two storied building.
• Obstetric department has indoor capacity of 60 beds, well equiped labour room , USG room, intensive care unit, general & special rooms, obstetrics OT & a separate septic OT .
• Department has annual delivery rate of 3000 with approximately 20 % cesarean section.
• Offices for teaching and paramedical staff.

Gynec department

• It is established on 6th floor of new OPD building in sir T. hospital campus.
• It has indoor capacity of 40 beds.
• Department has well equiped gynec and endoscopy operation theater.
• It has well equiped departmental library, seminar hall with audio visual aid & internet facility.

OPD-Department

• OPD services on daily basis is provided on ground floor in new OPD building of sir T. hospital (room no.81)
• It has daily OPD of 90 to 110 patients.
• In OPD there is a separate room for
• Examination of pregnant women.
• Examination of gynec patient including papsmear.
• Family planning services.
• Mamata clinic.
• Ultra sonography.
• Colposcopy.

Subject curriculum

UG teaching

• Integrated theory lectures & bed side clinical posting of 24 week s in O & G department.

PG teaching

• Case presention , journal club, seminars are conducted as per teaching schedule with adequate clinical material.
• Regular maternal mortality review meetings.

Extra Activity

Examination Pattern

• There is internal & external (University) examination.


• Internal Examination are 3 in no. Out of which one is preliminary exam before the university exam.


• It is in form of theory, practical, viva-voice, bedside case & ward leaving examination, internal exam.


• It is in form of theory, practical, viva-voice, bedside case & ward leaving examination, internal exam. Carries weight age of 20% in main (External) exam, main exam has two theory papers & practical examination assessed by set of two external & two internal examiners.
