About

History

      Department was established in 1995 in old building in sir takhtsinhji hospital campus with annual intake capacity of 50 students. In march 2000 department was shifted to newly constructed spacious college building near state transport depot. Department is located on fourth floor and has infrastructure adequate to cater the need of 150 admissions per year. In the academic year 2006-07 with permission of medical council of india intake capacity is raised to 100 students per year. Department also participate in teaching laboratory methods in physiology to students of medical laboratory technicians training course run by directorate of medical education and research, govt. of gujarat for inservice and outside candidates over and above undergraduate course leading to m.b.b.s. degree Department wishes to start postgraduate (m. d.) course in subject of physiology and expect inspection from medical council of india in october 2006 Govt. of gujarat has decided to apply to central government to raise undergraduate admission capacity to 150 from academic year 2007-08.

Infrastructure

The whole college was constructed with keeping in mind the idea of increasing undergraduate admission strength in future to 150. so as mentioned below department has enough space to accommodate 150 students.

• Lecture hall and two demonstration rooms of required capacity and eqipped with audiovisual aids.
• Well equipped hematology, clinical physiology, amphibian physiology, mammalian physiology and research laborator with adequate seating capacity and preparation rooms, smoking and warnishing room, dark room for ophthalmoscopy etc
• Offices for teaching and paramedical staff
• Departmental library, seminar room, museum, store room
• Possess departmental animal room over and above the central animal house with breading and experimental facility
• Department has dedicated broadband connection with membership to govt. of gujarat virtual library project through which hundreds of journals and books are accessible online
• Department has dedicated fulltime faculties (as private practice of any kind is not permissible as per recruitment rules of govt.of gujarat).department has adequate number of teaching faculties as per medical council of india guidelines to maintain teacher:student ratio to 1:10.

Our department had organized a state level Workshop on Evaluation Methodology on 29th Nov 2008. it was grand sucess in a sense that more than 200 participants from all over the gujarat and from various medical colleges have attanded this. there were national speakers from various parts of india.

Goal

The broad goal of the teaching of undergraduate students in Physiology aims at providing comprehensive knowledge of the normal functions of the organ systems of the body to facilitate and understanding of the physiological basic of health and disease.

The broad goal of the teaching of undergraduate students in Physiology aims at providing comprehensive knowledge of the normal functions of the organ systems of the body to facilitate and understanding of the physiological basic of health and disease.

Knowledge

At the end of the course the student shall be able to -

1. Explain the normal functioning of all the organ systems and their interactions for well coordinated total body function;
2. Assess the relative contribution of each organ system to the maintenance of the milieu interior;
3. Elucidate the physiological aspects of normal growth and development;
4. Describe the physiological response and adaptations to environmental stresses;
5. List the physiological principles underlying pathogenesis and treatment of disease.



Skills

At the end of the course the student shall be able to
